Welcome to ParMana! I launched ParMana in 2012 with the dream of combining my love for design and my passion for building community into a social enterprise.
As a child I spent the majority of my time with two things – playing outside with the neighborhood kids (I was a bit of a tomboy) and doing anything and everything related to art. As I grew older, my love for art never faded, but I perceived it as more of a hobby than a career.
After I graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a BA in Psychology and International Peace Studies, I found myself naturally drawn to the nonprofit field. Eventually, I had the privilege of serving as the Executive Director of St. Francis Neighborhood Center, a nonprofit community center in Baltimore City. Here, I started several community building initiatives including an after-school youth development program for disadvantaged children, a neighborhood greening initiative, and community yoga.
In 2012, ParMana was born bringing an eco-friendly, ethically crafted handbag line to the market. We later expanded into the home decor, vintage, and baby product industries. All along the way, we strived to center the heart of our business on community building by sourcing and manufacturing domestically, partnering with local businesses, utilizing environmentally friendly materials and practices, and donating a percentage of the proceeds to a local nonprofit agency.
I launched ParMana to bring a sense of community back into people's lives because I believe it is the key to resolving most of today's complex problems. However, I found my time overwhelmingly consumed by sourcing materials, finding manufacturers, overseeing production, and executing our sales and marketing plan, which left little space for active community building.
In 2017, I decided to change all that by turning ParMana's business model on its head. Community touches every part of our lives…from what we eat, wear, say, think, and do. So I want ParMana to do the same thing. Ambitious and unconventional I know but beautifully organic in its design.
LIVEstyle by ParMana brings this ethos to life. It is a platform for myself and amazing people like you to share your experiences and expertise from anything and everything that enhances our lives and unites us as a community.
The world has never been more connected via communication and information yet paradoxically so disconnected from what really matters - people, relationships, humanity.
It's time to make a change … Let's go it together.
Thank you for coming along on this wild adventure with me,
Sarah Tarighi Murphy
